the last few weeks of my pregnancy were a whirlwind.
we bought a house.
painted the house.
unpacked the house.
attempted to organize the house.
ALL less than two weeks prior to us welcoming our little man into the world!
insane? just slightly.
but, we made it. it's not totally finished (is it EVER?) but we're here & enjoying it.
do you see the size of my belly? LARGE.
we finally moved in on monday, may 30th. which we could not have done without the help of our families! holy cow. thank heaven for our amazing, A.MAZ.ING families!
before i fell asleep on Tuesday...
I asked Beckham to give mama one more day to get a little more organized.
and he is such a good boy he gave me exactly what i asked for!
wednesday, june 1st
9:30ish pm
i finally felt something different, stronger than my previous contraction like cramps.
these started in my back and swung around to the front of my very pregnant belly.
i didn't say anything to J until about 10:15ish. just wanted to make sure i wasn't overreacting!
i wasn't. they kept coming & they could be timed. 8 mins apart. we timed them for about an hour before bed. they held steady at 8 mins apart. j slept, i tried.
thursday, june 2nd
7:00ish am
the contractions were creeping closer. consistently 6-7mins apart.
did i mention that june is INSANE at work for jason? i mean insane.
so, he was planning on heading to work...wait? what?
7:45ish am
seriously...jason you can't go to work!
contractions now 4-6mins apart. and growing in strength.
uh, jason YOU'RE not going to work!
8:30ish am
contractions 3-5mins apart.
a call to the doctor...AND...
it's go TIME!
we grabbed some last minute items. threw them in our GO bag. loaded up the pups (my mom picked them up at the hospital!) and headed out.
10am
we arrived at the hospital. my mom took the sweet pups & we headed inside to get this party started.
i was all worried that they would say - you aren't actually in labor! i know...crazy!
but to my relief after changing and being checked, it was confirmed.
i was in labor & i was almost at 4cm! sweet.
i really, really wanted to deliver beckham naturally. that was the plan. i wanted to let my body labor & usher my son into the world when he was ready to come.
10:30ish am
j & i walked the hallways. my contractions grew in intensity.
causing me to stop & breathe about every 3mins.
my mom joined us. we continued to stroll & stop, stroll & stop.
1:30ish pm
they checked me again. a little over 4cm. dang it. not very much progress.
2ish pm
we decided to have a little intervention & have the doctor break my water.
and this is when things turned a bit.
the doctor discovered meconium.
at that point beckham had to be continuously monitored. the NICU had to be present for the delivery.
i could no longer move freely. i had to labor in bed. fighting with all my might to get through each contraction. they were coming fast & hard. about every min to min & a half. they peaked quickly & sat in my back.
AND my concern grew for the little man that was still in my tummy.
3:30ish pm
only 6cm. i just can't take the pain anymore. i cried hard. i was so disappointed in myself. but, i was exhausted. i wanted sleep but i couldn't get any rest. i just didn't know how much longer i could handle the pain. i caved. they administered the epidural.
finally, i was able to rest & relax.
4:30ish pm
my contractions had gone from every 2mins to about every 15mins.
my incredible nurse Jenn (seriously, the staff at the hospital was ridiculous! in a good way.) recommended we start pitocin to pick up the pace of the contractions again.
it worked!
7pm
9 cm. Jenn's prediction - i'd start pushing about 8:30pm.
beckham's plan...slightly different!
8:00ish pm
still at 9cm. seriously? seriously.
he was still pretty high. so they started turning me every half hour to help the baby slide down.
9pm
10cm! YES! Ruby (the night nurse...awesome too!) had me push a couple of times & then suggested we let him work his way down a little more.
9:30ish pm
it was time to push again! ruby said "this could take 2 hrs"
my response, "uh, no."
i knew i only had about an hour in me to push this boy out.
i pushed every other contraction because beckham's heart rate would drop & we wanted to let him get some rest before the next push.
10:13pm
after 40 mins of pushing.
our blue faced babe (the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck) entered the world & made our family of two grow to a perfect three.
we weren't able to hold our little man for over an hour after he was born. the NICU team had to check him & make sure everything was okay. not ideal. obviously. we were just relieved everything came back normal & we had a healthy baby boy!
it was such an incredible, indescribable moment watching the doctor pull our baby out of me. truly surreal to think...we did that. he is half me, half jason. in 9 short months (i know when you are pregnant it doesn't feel short) this little person grew into our first born. our baby. our son. unbelievable.
he is ours. insane. instant heart exploding love.
