A Celebration

it was a celebration...
of family & friends.
of love.
but most importantly of life.

this past weekend, we headed up north to remember jason's grandpa. he suffered a stroke a little over 3 months ago. and passed on the 6th, peacefully at the age of 93.
tears were shed as memories were shared but the most magical thing was the love.
jason's grandparents just celebrated 65 years of marriage. 65 years after only 6 days of dating!
can we say true love?
their loved blossomed into six amazing children.
from those 4 boys & two girls came twenty-five grandchildren.
and so far those twenty-five grandchildren have added twenty-seven great grandchildren to this love-filled family.
this weekend offered time with family. brothers together. cousins reunited.
opportunities for first meetings.
 play time with dadda.

a trip to morro bay for fish & chips.
and more time for sharing, laughing & loving.

time to sit back & reflect.
i didn't have the pleasure of knowing grandpa don for very long but from the moment i met him, i told jason "he's special!" there was something about his spirit that pulled on my heart strings. you could sense his passion for life, his love for his family, his caring nature.
it was all evident the very first time i met him.
and after this weekend, listening to the stories shared, my suspicions were confirmed.
he truly is an incredible man.

and now, a little more about don, from my handsome hubs!

normally, i let megan control the blogosphere,
but i had to take a moment and add a little bit about Grandpa. i have so many great memories
that i couldn't possibly put them all down. however, here are just a couple things
that are important and memorable to me:

grandpa loved sports, just like me. we could always talk for hours about
the lakers, or football or baseball or whatever.
i remember when my dad and i were at my grandparents' house
watching a Lakers vs Kings playoff game. It was the game
when Robert Horry hit the 3 at the buzzer to win it,
and me, my dad and grandpa all jumped out of our chairs cheering!
my grandma started laughing at us 3 cuz she thought it was so funny.
but that's the Davis family; we love our sports!

Grandpa didn't talk a lot, but i love the story of when my grandma was saying that
she loved "that stringy haired basketball player, Steve Ash" and
how embarassed my grandpa got and quickly corrected her,"It's Nash, Lorraine, it's Nash." hahaha

he loved his recliner; it was his spot.
he raked oak leaves...A LOT.

He loved Carl's Jr.! it was his lunch spot.
sometimes they had to settle for Taco Bell or In & Out, tho.
He loved him some pumpkin pie and whipped cream!

he was a spiritual man. he was there when i when i went to the temple and when i left for my mission.
He loved his family. when we moved to NYC, he told us not to become "East Coasters."
and every time we came home he would tell us to come back and visit soon.

i love my grandpa and will miss him. he lived a great, long life and
will always hold a special place in my heart.
Hopefully, i can be a great grandpa like him one day.

we are so glad beckham was able to meet his great grandpa.
though their moments together were few, i know an impression was made.
and as beckham grows, we will make sure he knows how much his great grandpa loved him.
and how the moment he laid eyes on beckham, his face exploded into a smile.
the above picture is pretty special. 4 generations.
craig is don's firstborn.
jason is craig's firstborn.
and beckham is jason's firstborn.
this past weekend was truly a celebration.
of family & friends.
of love.
but most importantly of life.

It was good to finally meet you too! I was hoping to get a chance to talk to you at the luncheon but Brooklyn ended up needing me to feed her. Casey said he talked to you though, so hopefully he said hi for me. :) Your little guy is soooo cute! Hopefully we will get to see you again soon. Where are you living these days?

Your remembrances of Grandpa Don, Megs and Jason, touched my heart. The love he poured out continues to spill over through your words and actions to others. It's obvious he has been a great example of that! I love you! Thank you for sharing a little of the life of this special man. <3

I'm so glad that you were all able to make the funeral. I am so sad that I had to miss it, but I loved all your pictures that help me "pretend I was there" with everybody. Grandpa was so amazing and I'm glad that little Beckham got to meet him.

OK I'm totally crying here! I'm so glad that you got those priceless pictures of Jason with his son and his Dad and Grandpa. That was really awesome to hear what JAson had to say.
