Sweet Summer Sun!

it has been cool (borderline cold), grey & stormy the last few days. fall seems to be creeping in quickly and i am so not ready to say goodbye to the warm sunshine!

when we first moved here and my teeth were chattering everyone said "you will be begging for a cold winters day after you've experienced a summer here!"

my response to them "nope, not begging." even with the humidity and the unnecessary sweat, i will take the sunshine any day over dark days filled with bitter cold winds. i know, i know...i am a big baby about this weather thing but come on people i have been spoiled my entire life with california weather.

a few weeks ago jason and i enjoyed a weekend...get this...where we both had saturday & sunday off. what a concept. the weather was, well, very california like. we wanted to soak in as much sun on our pale skin bodies as we could.

first attempt on saturday did not go so well...it was a black & white kinda day.
i can tell you this story now with a smile on my face and a chuckle in my chest because time has passed and i see the humor in this adventure. oh but that day i was so rip roaring mad that i could not laugh. i just had to turn and walk away.

i mentioned that jason and i have been working a lot on the weekends. so the pups haven't had nearly the time out of the apartment that they want or deserve. we decided to pack up some towels and head to the park to relax with our sweet little boy and girl.

i recommend you don't allow yourself to fall for these two faces. they are not the victims in the tale i am about to tell. they are the culprits.

abigail and sebastian had had their breakfast. jason and i had not. it was noonish, my food window had hit and passed. i needed something to eat and i needed it now. we decided to grab some hot dogs off a cart and gatorade. tasty enough and at this point i really didn't care. just wanted food.

my bag was packed with water & treats for the pups. my hands were now full; two hot dogs with ketchup, mustard and sauerkraut, gatorade, wallet and loose change (bills). jason's hands were equally as full with two basset hounds and gatorade. we began to stroll to find a patch of grass to park it and eat.
PREPARE YOURSELVES & REMEMBER MY WARNING ABOUT THOSE FACES...
abigail turns 180 degrees and jumps up on me and attempts to snatch my hot dog. she is kinda big and slow (sad but true) and only knocked my hot dog into my chest leaving my shirt covered in ketchup, mustard oh and sauerkraut. i scream "AB.I.GAIL!!!" wipe as much gunk off my shirt as i can and continue to walk because the park is very crowded and i am hungry and i don't want to make a big scene.

50 more feet. sebastian jumps at me. lunges his mouth forward. grabs my hot dog and MY TEN DOLLAR BILL. remember, remember my loose change?? and begins to swallow the entire hot dog and my money! i throw the other hot dog on the floor because this dog is not going to eat my $10. i rip his mouth open, stick my hand down his throat and pull my half swallowed, now soaked ten dollar bill out of his clenched jaw.

to avoid kicking sebastian or screaming or making an even bigger scene than was now already made. i turn and walk away. leaving my poor husband to deal with two hot dogs on the ground. two basset hounds who are foaming at the mouth attempting to get a taste of our lunch.

what happened to the dogs? jason lost the battle with one hot dog. sebastian successfully got his squirmy body and mouth over to one of the fallen dogs. abigail (fat & slow) didn't have the same luck. after some cool down time, i reunited with my little family. and told jason i am not spending my day with them. they were dropped off at home and we went out to lunch.

oh but then there was sunday. oh sunday. it was a new day filled with more sweet summer sun. jason and i wandered in the morning around the city. walking. talking. snapping photos.

then we decided to give our fur children another chance to get out of the apartment and spend some time with us. we made the smart choice of avoiding the hot dog cart.

this photo made me realize exactly how white my legs have gotten. YIKES!

sebastian showing jason who the boss is...
what an amazing afternoon it was. a cool breeze rustling the leaves in the trees above.
a nice afternoon nap outside on the grass. cuddle time with the pups. heaven on earth.

and to close the weekend. craziness outside our apartment window. and reconfirming the promise jason and i made to each other. seat belts worn in cabs. always. this is the 3rd car accident we have seen just on our intersection since we moved in. ALL three accidents have been cab on cab.

one cab went into the coffee shop on the corner & the other is in the bottom of the photo. CRAZY!
i hope you are all enjoying the end of this summer season!

I loved reading this post Megan. SO happy to hear you had a full weekend off together, I know that doesn't happen too often. I love how detailed your writing is, so exciting to read. You poor thing with the hot dogs... and $10 that is crazy! You did the right thing by walking away, my instincts probably would have been to hit the dog, but always best to walk away and cool down. I promise I will be back to normal blogging after we move, man how I've missed it. Love you
