Five Months

** i started writing this the night of his five month birthday celebration but i had a lot on my mind & was having trouble formulating a proper love letter for our baby cake. **
peach,
at this same time five months ago i was pushing with all my might. i was focused & determined to get you out as quickly as i could. i was ready to meet you & i know your dad was too. i've talked about those first few moments before; moments that have changed my definition. i'm now someone's mom. i have a son. but, those first few moments have nothing on the love i have for you today. your dad & i, each night before bed, look at each other & say "i can't believe how much i love that little guy." truly, no words can or will ever be able to convey the amount of love we have for you.
it's the weirdest thing, you are such a loud little man. we are so confused how that could have happened, i mean i am so soft spoken & so is your dad but you, you have a set of lungs on you. wink. wink. you shriek with delight at all hours of the day. sometimes we aren't sure what has you so excited but you let one rip & flash your gummy grin. speaking of that toothless smile, we are certain two little teeth are working there way through your very swollen gums. trust us, we have the drool marks to prove it.
i'm convinced that you spend your nights weight lifting rather than sleeping. each morning you wake with more strength. sitting up or standing tall is all you want to do these days. frustration takes over your entire body if i lay you down. you get yourself in a crunch position, determined to sit up on your own. you've conquered the sitting up portion, you can go minutes sitting tall like a big boy. if you start to lose your balance you throw your arms out like the wings of an airplane until you're steady again.
when i was a little girl & i was bored i would say "daaaaaaaaaddd, i'm bored! i'm bored dad!"
like it was his job to entertain me.
in more recent years the song changed to "jaaaasssoonn, i'm bored! i'm bored jason!"

well, my mistake! because now you do the same thing to me! obviously, not in so many words.
but, it's made very clear when you scream like you are on fire when i leave the room but the minute i come back around the corner, you start smiling & giggling.
you want my full undivided attention ALL day long. which leaves me getting little done around the house.
we feel like we are on a roller coaster ride with your sleep patterns the last few weeks. up & down, up & down. some nights you are knocked out for 9 1/2 hours. other nights you wake up two - three times. the uncool part about the two - three times is you hardly did that as a newborn. what's up bud? and the even uncooler part (yeah, i just said uncooler) is that when you don't sleep well, you are a grumpy McGrumpster. So let's just make a deal...in our house you sleep at night, 'k?
over the last few days you have decided you are ready to be independently mobile. you have been working on your scooting abilities. good heaven, so soon? as i gaze around our house at mercury glass vases, glass doors, low shelves & the constant presence of dog hair (i swear it is impossible that our dogs are NOT bald with the way they shed) i begin to panic thinking about you crawling around. not to mention you LOVE to climb off our laps like you are going to walk somewhere. cracks us up. when your feet hit the floor your face lights up with delight.
you constantly keep us entertained with your random giggles & crazy sounds. you brighten our mornings with your big baby grin. even in your moments of hysteria, which you seem to save mostly for the privacy of our own home or car, we wouldn't change the addition of you in our lives. at the young age of five months you have mastered the art of the flirt. batting you baby blues, tucking your chin to your chest with the bashful head turn & finishing it all of with a big smile, exposing those heart stopping dimples. and the best part, you're all ours.

with undeniable...indescribable love,
mama

Dogs Beach

in our house it's TGIS. jason works every saturday, so for us, we celebrate saturday evening like it's friday night. there are definitely perks to having a sunday/monday weekend. mondays allow for us to enjoy activities with less crowds and that perk came true on monday afternoon. we loaded up the dogs & headed to the beach for a family play date.
it was beautiful. the tide was lower than i can ever remember. the beach was nearly empty. the wind tickled your cheeks and blew your hair. it was perfection. this is technically beckham's second time to the beach (more on that later!), but this was his first opportunity to get his feet wet and play for awhile.

this sweet dad & daughter duo offered to take a picture of our fam. i set the daughter up & said just hit this button here. it was so cute...see took a photo & then moved to a couple other spots.
her dad said "did you get it!"
she said, "yes, the baby is so cute, i'm getting a few more!"
the pups were completely delighted to be out of the house, running around & smelling everything their noses could hunt down. these poor pups have definitely gotten the short end of the stick since the little mister arrived.

seashells covered the water's edge. when i was a little girl, i had baskets & baskets of seashells. i would save my allowance money & drag my dad to a seashell shop on balboa island that smelled like cat pee just to buy more shells. the little girl inside me started bubbling to the surface seeing the stretch of beach ahead covered in glistening gifts from the sea.

we strolled slowly down the waterfront. stopping whenever our hearts desired to have impromptu photo shoots of our baby boy, each other & the scenery that surrounded us.

the sand covered our toes as we danced back & forth from water to sand. beckham worked on his core, while attempting to stay steady on his bum. i must say, nothing is sweeter than baby feet covered in black, gold & bronze flakes.

did i mention we did some serious baby tossing too?

we ended the afternoon, with a pink cheeked baby, (from the wind...not the sun!) wind blown hair, sandy feet & some heavenly light guiding us back to our car.
it is so hard to get family shots, especially with our camera. j successfully secured our camera on a rock & set the auto timer. SCORE!
oh & a majorly teething baby boy.
he'll gnaw your finger off if you let him!

Galaxy Soccer

this past weekend was flooded with adventures. from a flight to the bay area, a pumpkin patch tour & a surprise trip to the final home game for the galaxy. i've mentioned before the love affair jeremy & anna have with the galaxy team. for the past two years they have had season tickets to watch their favorite soccer team. and because of their undeniable soccer love, it has rubbed off & made the entire family smitten with the sport too!
well unfortunately for jer & anna, but fortunately for the davis clan, jer got stuck at work and offered over their tickets. beckham was a fussy buns in his fuzzibunz but we decided how could we not introduce him to a live soccer match.
there was one condition to us getting these amazing tickets. b had to be decked out in his landon donovan signed galaxy onesie that jer & anna gifted our sweet boy before he had even finished cooking in my belly. we obliged & dressed our little man in the over-sized 24 month onesie.
jeremy & anna's seats are perfection. second row, just to the right of the galaxy bench. so close you can smell the freshly cut grass. some of you may be familiar with a soccer player by the name of david beckham. wink. wink. well, david beckham plays for the galaxy. so our sweet boy got to watch beckham work his magic on the soccer field. the first time it was a little odd calling our beckham, beckham.
the noise of the roaring crowd was a bit much for B. he had a handful of meltdowns every time the crowd exploded with excitement. except for when the galaxy sailed the soccer ball into the net. i think we may have a mini fan on our hands.
near the end of the game, b was DONE. so i slipped out of our seats and headed to the top of the stands & waited in some empty seats, more removed from the growing crowd noise. j joined us there, after the 90mins & extra time had passed. we watched as the soccer team walked around the entire field clapping & thanking their fans for all their support (a tradition after every match). i think it is so cool that they take the time to do that. we watched as landon donovan hoisted his MVP trophy high above his head. and we watched as the team & fans said farewell to greg berhalter, a long time player, who is retiring.
it was a great night. beckham's first professional sporting event. a galaxy win. and a night out with my family of three. thank you again, jer & anna for spoiling us with such a fun night out!
********************************************************
oh funny story before i sign off. if you know me, you know i'm a rule follower. i honestly get so much anxiety about breaking rules. well, we had to park kind of far from the stadium because it was packed. and when we got to the gate. camera in hand (of course!) to capture this "first" we headed towards security.

to hear...
lady worker - "uh, ma'am...you can't bring that camera in here. the lens is to large. you'll have to take it back to your car!"
me - "i'm not walking this all the way back to the car! we are parked to far away & we have the baby."
lady worker - "then you'll have to check it at guest services."
me - "i'm not checking this camera at guest services! i will put it in my backpack & not use it"
lady worker - "you'll have to speak with out supervisor over there in the red jacket!"

walk towards supervisor in red jacket, who is busy dealing with a cell phone issue with another guest.
i see that lady worker is distracted, so i throw the camera in our bag and tell jason "GO!" we take off walking, me way faster than normal because i am sure i'm going to be tackled by security at any moment, completely panicked until we are safely seated in jer & anna's seats on the other side of the stadium. phew. needless to say, the camera remained in our bag until after the game because a lady behind us got busted for a much smaller lens than ours!

Halloween Porch Decor

while we were strolling around disneyland, i spotted a halloween inspired urn perched on the fence of the haunted mansion. i told jason, "i can make that!" these words come out of my mouth often but then i never actually make it. why? who knows. but, this time, this time i was determined to make it.
so the very next day, i scooted out with beckham to gather the supplies needed to recreate this spooky, sophisticated masterpiece. those ding dang supplies sure did add up. i figure if we are good about protecting it after halloween passes it will last us for years to come. all i need to buy is an LED candle to make that pumpkin glow.

how fun would a matching wreath be? i think that may be my next project!
what's inspired you this fall?
